Mattie Musings

WOW. That is really all I can say about Sissy at 3 1/2. We are continually blown away by her and the things she says - both the good and the bad (let's be real). She can be hilarious and smart and super sweet. And she can be completely exasperating and a toot. All within the same five minutes. I took her to a play date on Friday with her best little friend from school, and I had never met the mother before. And ya'll, I seriously wanted to crawl under the floor, I was so appalled by her behavior. I seriously had to ask the other mother to watch Ben for me so that I could try and calm her down when she threw a huge temper tantrum.

Her imaginary play now is the biggest thing. She will play in her room with her dolls and animals for literally hours - and she has them having full conversations with each other. She still loved her animals. (Note she has on my high heels).

I have been writing down some of the funny conversations we have been having lately, because I cannot believe the things she thinks about and asks me.

So here are some Mattie Musings!

Sissy: Mama, when do I get another baby?
Me: (In a slightly panicked voice) What do you mean Sissy? Another doll?
Sissy: No, another baby, a real baby like brother.
Me: Um, this is probably it for you sis. I think this is how God made our family.
Sissy: But Mama who will be your little children when me and brother are grown up? Maybe God will give you some more little children when we are older.
Me: (Silence)

Sissy: Mama, when is God going to make my husband?
Me: Well Sissy, he might already be out there somewhere.
Sissy: Well, when am I going to get married then?
Me: When you are much much older sweetie.
Sissy: Is that husband going to be my man?
Me: (trying to keep a straight face) Yes babe.
Sissy: Well what about brother's girl?
Me: Well, we will just have to wait and see sweetie!

Sissy: Mama, when I get big am I going to not live with you?
Me: Well Sissy, when you get to be really grown up, you might want to move in to your own house, and maybe get married and have babies and live with your own little family.
Sissy: (near tears) BUT I don't want to live away from you, and I will miss you and I don't want to not live in my house!!!!
Me: Okay babe, well you can live with me as long as you like.
Sissy: Pause - Mama, do bride's have wet hair?
. . . . . hmmmmm . . .
