Four years and 18 months update

Hello! Sorry I have been slow to blog lately . . . I feel like we have been so busy! Matt was gone the past two weekends, and I had something three nights in a row this week. I love that we have friends and church and all kinds of wonderful fun to keep us busy - it just hasn't left much time for blogging!

Ben and Mattie had their 18-month and 4-year check-ups on Thursday. Both of them had to get shots, and luckily Matt could come with me or it would have been a seriously tough appointment for Mama! I tried to get some cute pictures before church to accompany my update post with their stats, but this just never seems to work for me. Maybe it is because I am always doing it five minutes after we should have walked out the door and saying SMILE NOW in my most stern mom voice followed by some random threat of punishment. It is probably a good thing for my soul that we go to church right after . . .

So Big Bad Ben Boy is now 25.9 pounds and 34 inches tall. He is such a sweet nerdy little guy! Ben is finally talking some and says - Dada, Mama, car, ball, nana (banana), nigh nigh (night night), all gone, woof, and a version of sissy (basically two s sounds in a row). I am trying my hardest not to rush Ben out of what is left of his baby phase, but I am so excited for him to be able to talk and communicate with me a little more. He gets frustrated and cries and cries when he can't tell me what he wants. We had a rough couple of weeks where he had a cold and was seeming to melt down all the time. But he seems to be feeling better and is much happier I think!
See, looks happy right? My little man loves to run and chasing birds is one of his favorite things to do. He is also much more into reading than he was a few months ago. He will bring us book after book after book to read. He likes cars and balls (as evidenced by his words).
My favorite thing about Ben is that he loves to hug! I still let him eat breakfast sitting in my lap on days I am home. Mornings when he is in a good mood, he will take a bite, and turn around and hug while he  chews that bite. It is pretty heavenly. He also runs over and put his head down for a hug on your knee, or your tummy if you are laying down! If you have been gone for awhile he will squeeze you and make you feel so good!

At four years, Sister is 39 pounds and 42 inches. Last year she grew three inches and gained five pounds. And grew up so much in maturity I can't even believe it. My favorite thing I heard her say this weekend was "Ben, I am not impressed." She loves to play pretend, and will play for up to an hour in her room with her dollhouse, or playing school or church or anything. She just talks and talk and talks if she is by herself. Or she bosses if you are playing with her, very specific in how she wants you to play with her and what to say.
Sissy often tells stories and plays pretend in ways that involve God, Jesus and the disciples. I love that she is asking questions about God that I find it hard to answer. It means she thinks about things. She watched a Dora for the first time in a long time awhile ago. Afterwards she said to me, "Mama, Dora was telling me all kind of things to do like stand up and clap. I did not do it. I don't have to listen to Dora. I only have to do what you, Daddy, God and Jesus tell me." If only she can remember that when she is sixteen!
This is how she wanted to pose for her pictures. Like a princess with one leg up, according to Mattie.
This was the best I could do for a sibling shot this morning. It isn't what I had planned, but somehow it is perfect.
